OK, I've been accepted. Now what?

The first thing that happens is that you get added to the NAF member mailing list. It's an announcement mailing list and the only time it sees traffic is when a deadline is coming up (reminders) or just past (status of the printing process). Look for emails coming from NAF-L@jarlidium.com. Please add that address to your spam filter if necessary.

The other thing that happens is that you get added to the roster. Normally your real name shows up there but we are flexible — just let us know if you would like to be listed another way.

What are blue pages?

"Blue" pages are comments pages. They only appear in member copies, and member copies go only to members. When we printed NAF in-house on a big office copier, they were really blue. We print through Lulu these days, so we can't control the color of the paper, and instead they have big black stripes on the outside margin with your name in white vertical type.

What goes on blue pages?

Anything you tell us to put there. By default, any comments you send in will go there.

What if I don't send in any comments?

If we can find something else of yours to go there, such as an envelope doodle, we'll use that. If we don't have anything of yours which we can use, then you'll end up with "blank page" art by somebody else.

What is "blank page" art?

It's a long tradition in furry APAs and is in the same spirit as IBM's famous "this page intentionally left blank": it tells the reader that the blank page isn't a printing error.

Who can contribute "blank page" art?

Anybody! Please! We rarely have enough to go around for any given issue. It doesn't have to be fancy but it should include the words "blank page" somewhere. This lets readers know that it's a blank page and lets us know that it's intended as blank-page art instead of as part of your trib.

What else goes on these blue pages?

Up at the front is general info, including the next deadline, and also the members-only members list. This normally includes your real name and real address. This is another long APA tradition, intended to allow members to contact each other directly with comments and art. Again, we are flexible — you have to have a listing of some sort, but it doesn't have to include your real name or more than a very general location.

Does my name or address appear anywhere else that I should know about?

There is also a public member list up at the front of all copies, member and public, which normally includes your real name and a very general location (such as "Oregon, USA").

Please summarize my personal info options!

  • Your real name normally shows up in three places: the roster on the web page, the members-only members list, and the public members list. If you don't want your real name listed (and you wouldn't be the only one!), let us know what to use instead.
  • Your complete address only shows up on the members-only members list. It can be replaced with a general location (state/province/area and country or just country) at your request.
  • Your general location (state/province/area and country) shows up on the public members list. It can be replaced with just your country at your request.
